Description
Crème Calm is Medera's original herbal cream formulation for managing dry, itchy, flakey, and damaged skin. Made to reduce skin inflammation, reduce itch sensation, and deeply hydrate and restore the skin, Crème Calm is appropriate for use on eczema, psoriasis, mosquito bites, and any other itchy skin condition. We prepare our own extracts in-house for Crème Calm, including calendula, chickweed, cleavers, chamomile, and turmeric. Perfumed only with essential oils, and containing no artificial colours or fragrances, Crème Calm can be used by those with highly sensitive skin or those prone to flare-ups after using skincare products.
How to use
How: Using a small amount, apply to the affected area or directly over bites and itchy spots.
When: Use on clean skin, morning and night, or any time your skin is feeling itchy.

The Science Behind The Formula
Chickweed
Chickweed, aka Stellaria media is this recipe's magic anti-pruritic. It stops itches almost instantaneously, making it the perfect herb for managing eczema, bites, and other itchy skin conditions. Its unique moisturising and soothing properties relieve dermal itching of virtually any kind within minutes. Stopping the itch (and scratching) and subsequent damage of the skin is an important part of eczema management — and chickweed is the hero of that mission.

Cleavers has been the subject of a large number of scientific studies, and is backed for its in-vitro wound-healing abilities. Traditionally, cleavers was applied to bites and wounds to heal the skin. It is antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial, and helps to heal skin that has been damaged by scratching or by eczema eruptions.

We prepare our own oil infusion of Calendula officinalis in our Medera laboratory. At low temperatures, we perform a whole plant extract the Calendula flower into grapeseed oil. This creates an oil extract rich in the oleoresins, flavonoids, fatty acids and carotenoids in the calendula flower. These compounds together produce an anti-inflammatory, wound healing effect that regenerates skin and reduces irritation.

We prepare our own turmeric-in-ethanol extract in-house at the Medera laboratory using distillation techniques. Turmeric is arguably the most researched herbal medicine on the planet, and especially for its anti-inflammatory properties. Even when applied to the skin, turmeric reduces inflammation and redness, helping to heal skin that has been damaged or broken.

PRESERVATIVE FREE, SYNTHETIC FREE
Crème Calm is made with plant extracts, emulsifiers of plant origin, and is preservative free. We use an Australia Certified Organic preservative made from vegetable extracts, allowing us to label this product preservative free. It is labelled on our products as parfum, the legally correct way of labelling this ingredient, but it is sold under the trade name "Naticide". Crème Calm is perfumed exclusively with essential oils, and therefore contains no synthetic fragrances or colours. Crème Calm Medicinal Cream has a naturally green/yellow colour due to the whole plant extracts used in its formulation.
Synthetics, including preservatives, can damage the integrity of the skin barrier and exacerbate skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis. This is because they disrupt the skin’s natural biome. Crème Calm is made entirely out of ingredients with a natural origin, including ingredients in their whole form, such as whole plant extracts of chickweed, cleavers, chamomile, calendula, and turmeric.
No synthetic fragrances are used in Crème Calm. Synthetic fragrances are known to contain harmful chemicals that disrupt endocrine function. This is why Medera products are only ever perfumed with natural essential oils, resins, and gums. We do not attempt to mask the smell of plants with perfume. Instead, we work with the natural aromas of the oils and extracts we use, mixing essential oils to capture beautiful scents without compromising your health.
