At Medera, we use only bonafide natural, organic ingredients. We use whole plant pressed oils, whole plant extractions, and essential oils to produce high quality skincare that's genuinely good for your body. On top of this, Medera's manufacturing practises are 100% sustainable. We don't use any chemical solvents in our products, therefore we produce no chemical waste. We don't send one iota of plastic to our consumers (all of it comes in wrapped in compostable materials).
Medera aims to use certified organic ingredients everywhere it possibly can. The ingredient list on each product is very clear about where ingredients are sourced and their organic status. Even though we pride ourselves on purity and excellence, organic certification is expensive, and at the moment Medera is growing towards this.
All of Medera Apothecary's products are handmade and bottled, right here in Melbourne Australia. Medera prepares oil infusions and ethanol-based botanical extractions for many of its products. See individual product listings for their ingredients and which extracts Medera has prepared for each product.
Medera uses an Australian Certified Organic, natural perservative system. We use two main preservatives, one of which is derived from vegetable origins and the other which is extracted from fermented radish roots. You'll notice that some of our products contain an ingredient called "parfum (vanilla & almond extracts)". This is the labelling convention for Naticide, a natural preservative of vegetable origins that's approved by Australian Certified Organic and ECOcert. Leucidal® Liquid appears as "radish root ferment filtrate", and is extracted from fermented radish roots. These two preservatives are completely friendly to your skin and the environment, so you can be comfortable knowing Medera's products are truly good for your skin.
Your Medera Apothecary products are made fresh in small batches, so when you receive them, they're pretty much fresh as it gets. The shelf life is 12 months from when you receive the product.
Medera's products are packaged in biophotonic glass jars which protect your botanical product from UV light exposure. This means your jar of tea can sit on the kitchen bench without losing its aromas or potency, and doesn't have to be stored in a dark place. However, heat still degrades botanical materials, so we recommend keeping your Medera Apothecary product in a shaded place away from direct sunlight. This will help your product retain its complex aromas and potency throughout its shelf life.
Yes! You absolutely can get a personalised product. If you have a specific skin condition or a specific skin complaint that I haven't addressed in one of the product descriptions, or an herbal tea for a certain effect, please feel free to contact me. I'm also happy to personalise aromas on already-existing products or simply to use or help you find botanicals you are interested in purchasing.
To order a personalised product, get in touch through the Contact page. Tell me a little about yourself and what you're looking for, and I'll be in touch within a few days.
"Functional" botanical products are those that are made with herbal ingredients that serve a specific purpose. For example, Medera Apothecary's Harp Hands is made with botanicals that have an affinity for the muscles, tendons, and ligaments when applied topically. Each product listing has detailed information about its ingredients and the reasons they are included.
All of Medera Apothecary's products are functional. This means that every formula is chosen for a specific reason, making Medera's products effective and a pleasure to use.
All Medera Apothecary products are packaged in biophotonic miron glass jars. This is high quality glassware that protects your botanical products from degradation by UV light.
Products are then wrapped in Envirobubble or Greenwrap. Envirobubble is a completely biodegradable bubble wrap made from reformed recycled plastic. It degrades in landfill in less than one year into non-harmful residues. Greenwrap is simply made out of recycled cardboard and can be composted or recycled.
Then, Medera Apothecary products go in their cardboard shipping box and are taped up with compostable sticky tape. This tape is made out of vegetable products and natural rubber adhesive, so it can be composted at home or put in green waste.
Smaller orders are shipped in a 100% compostable bubble mailer. It can go straight in the home compost or the green waste bin.
Medera Apothecary aims to purchase herbs and raw ingredients that are grown and processed in Australia. However, from time to time imported herbs and ingredients are used because they are unavailable or not grown to an organic standard in Australia.
Medera Apothecary has a 100% disclosure model on all of its sourcing. Before you buy a product, you can check where all of the ingredients are grown and sourced. Medera Apothecary lets you make informed decisions as a customer as to the origins of your product.
